Bridges is a Dyslexia Intervention Curriculum that connects a Teacher assisted by an online Avatar and a Student in a two-year program written by the staff of the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia and Learning Disorders at Scottish Rite for Children.

Those familiar with “Take Flight: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia” know it was designed for use by certified academic language therapists. Developing that level of expertise requires a two-year process that at times can lead to a gap between the number of students identified with dyslexia and the number of trained therapists available to provide services.

Bridges is one solution to expand the available therapeutic resources to address the needs of students with dyslexia. Bridges is designed to maintain high-quality, research-based and highly effective dyslexia instruction while reducing teacher preparation time. The digital avatar teacher, named Ms. Hallie, delivers the more complex aspects of structured dyslexia intervention. Teachers achieve qualification through two weeks of instruction (one preliminary week and the other days offered as coaching and training throughout the first and second years).

The Bridges program provides the certified teacher with scripted manuals that are used along with the online program access to provide a research-based dyslexia intervention.

Bridges requires a full-time certified teacher who will follow a script for 3/4 of the lesson. The other 1/4 of the lesson will be co-taught by Ms. Hallie, our virtual human avatar.

The Scottish Rite Learning Center of South Texas offers training for teachers who want to become Bridges Certified Teachers.
