The Scottish Rite Learning Center of South Texas utilizes the complete dyslexia curriculum library developed by the Luke Waites Center for Dyslexia and Learning Disorders.
There are several teacher certifications built around this curriculum to prepare teachers to deliver the information in their classrooms for the benefit of their students in need. These certifications are described in another section below.
The Take Flight curriculum is a Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia.
Take Flight was designed for use by Academic Language Therapists for children with dyslexia ages 7 and older. The two-year program is designed to be taught four days per week (60 minutes per day) or five days per week (45 minutes per day). It is intended for one-on-one or small group instruction with no more than six students per class.
A Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALTs) provides multisensory intervention to students with written-language disorders including dyslexia. CALTs are trained in Take Flight: Comprehensive Intervention For Students With Dyslexia.
Certification is accomplished through completion of the Language Foundations training. This certification is appropriate for Elementary Teachers, Special Education Teachers, Interventionists, and Reading Specialists.
Turbo Start is a curriculum is designed to provide an approach for students newly identified with dyslexia learning disabilities.
It provides a jump start for newly identified students of all ages with dyslexia who need comprehensive dyslexia intervention while awaiting placement in an intervention group.
Jet was designed for individuals with dyslexia that are 14 years and older. It is a one-year, evidence-based dyslexia intervention designed to be delivered one-on-one or in a small group instruction (no more than six students).
Jet is to be taught four days a week (60 minutes per day for one year) or five days a week (45 minutes per day).
Jet is taught by a Certified Academic Language Therapist.
The Build curriculum was developed to meet the unique needs of the K-1 students who have been identified at risk for dyslexia. It is a 100-lesson reading intervention to be delivered as a small group intervention that addresses five specific components of reading intervention. Each component is taught developmentally using a direct, systematic, cumulative, multisensory method of introduction and practice to meet the specific needs of kindergarten and first grade students struggling in reading.
